Democracy is a system of government in which power and authority are derived from the people.

A democracy is a form of governance where the people themselves hold the reins of power.

The word democracy is mostly of Greek origin and means "people and their laws." Greece was the first democratic nation in history. Greek historian Herodotus introduced the word "Democracy" as meaning "rule by the people".

The right pursue growth is an essential human right in a democracy. Regular elections are held in democracies, allowing voters to select the politicians or political parties of their choice. Everyone has the same ability to choose their government. The democracies protect basic freedom and rights for people, such as the freedom of speech, assembly, freedom of expression, and religion.

A democratic type of government is one in which the citizens of a nation elect their representatives through a voting process. Only if they are of voting age have all adult citizens in the nation the right to vote and elect the government of their choice.

Democracy encourages active participation in political processes, discussions, and policymaking, which in turn stimulates citizen involvement in public affairs. 

There are issues and objections with democracy. Its success depends on the active responsibility and involvement of the populace, which calls for an informed and involved population.

Democracy is often regarded as a system that upholds the ideals of freedom, equality, and representation while also giving people a way to influence the path their society and government will take.
