Earth Day: History, Origin, Significance
Every year on April 22, people celebrate Earth Day. The purpose of the day is to promote environmental awareness and inspire action to safeguard the environment. We are improving the quality of life on Earth by engaging in actions like planting trees and clearing up rubbish.
1970 saw the celebration of the inaugural Earth Day. On April 22, 1970, 20 million people nationwide participated in large-scale protests across the country to support a sustainable and healthy environment. This was the inaugural Earth Day.It was Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin who organized the inaugural Earth Day. Over 140 nations worldwide observed Earth Day in 1990.
BIHAR EARTH DAY
Bihar's Chief Minister, Shri Nitish Kumar, initiated the idea of Bihar Prithvi Diwas on August 9, 2011, even though April 22 is World Earth Day. August Kranti Diwas is also observed on August 9.

WHY EARTH DAY IS IMPORTANT
There are various reasons why Earth Day is important. It motivates people, groups, and authorities to take proactive measures to safeguard the environment. People are made aware of the value of sustainable behaviors and environmental care. It draws attention to pressing environmental problems like forest loss, pollution, change in the climate, and wildlife protection on a worldwide scale.
Activities on Earth Day
- Tree Planting :- In order to provide oxygen for human breathing, trees absorb carbon dioxide. planting trees to enhance air quality and counteract forest loss.
- Educational Programs:- Organizing conferences, talks, and workshops about environmental issues.
- Clean:-Planning near by area, park, and beach clean-ups.
- Recycle:- Live a more eco-friendly lifestyle by reducing your use of single-use plastics, prioritizing recycling and material upcycling.
- Promote the Modification of Policies:-Advocate for laws and policies that seek to preserve the environment and advance sustainable development.
